PDO Threads Q&A

What is PDO threading?

PDO threading, sometimes called a nonsurgical face-lift, is a treatment that helps lift and tighten your skin. This treatment involves polydioxanone (PDO) threads injected into areas of your face.

The threads move through layers of your skin to help anchor the skin in a lifted position. Because the threads cause mild irritation in the middle layer of skin, your body launches a healing response. You gradually make new collagen fibers as part of that healing response.

Over the six months or so after treatment, the PDO threads dissolve, and your body disposes of them naturally.

The new collagen fibers remain, though. They create an improved support structure for your skin and help keep your face looking younger and more lifted even after the threads are gone. Results can last a year or longer.

Am I a good candidate for PDO threading?

PDO threading can treat a wide range of concerns related to skin aging. The injected threads can benefit many parts of the face, based on the changes you desire.

At Coastal Regenerative Orthopedics & Wellness Center, some of the most popular PDO threading treatment areas are:

  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Jowls
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Drooping and thinning lips
  • Crow’s feet

PDO threading could be right for you if you want significant but natural-looking improvement and aren’t interested in surgical procedures like an eye lift or face-lift. PDO threading can work alongside injectables such as dermal fillers and Botox®.

What material is used in PDO threading?

PDO is made of a biodegradable polyester material safe for use in the human body. The threads are often called sutures because surgeons have used this material for years to close wounds and secure surgical repairs.

PDO threads work well for surgery because they don’t require another procedure to remove them, as they naturally break down over time. They’re equally effective in aesthetic procedures like PDO lifts because they can stimulate dramatic improvements without surgery.
